Oh well, Roxie, there's loads of people that are now going to have a carpy Christmas now that BA cabin crew are going on strike, me included! Looks like I'll have to look to putting standby stuff in the freezer. The first year ever OH and me wouldn't be here at Christmas, I've cooked Christmas dinner for the last 45 years.
 Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning the devil says, "OH CARP, SHE'S UP"!

I'm not at all competing, BUT, I move house THIS weekend!! I'm a little panicked as i have friday, saturday and sunday to paint, carpet and unpack as well as putting up decorations!! lol!!

Really feeling for you and hope you are feeling better soon. Try and find someone (maybe friend or rest of family if they are better!) to help you. Main thing is, don't panic! Shop online, write out cards, get someone else to post them. You have a week to wrap, so there's no worries there. I'm determined to be done by xmas!! Where there's a will, there's a way!!

Sending happy and get well soon vibes :D

No how you feel i had flu 2 weeks before xmas last year and ended up doing the food and some of the presents shopping on christmas eve still feeling rough-not recomended!

But somehow and im not sure how, everything worked out, the dinner was cooked and surprisingly edible (lol) everyone had a present and the day was fine - im sure it will be for you too.
Good luck and i hope your feeling better soon.

Very good advice as ever from everyone, the only thing to add - be good to yourself, and take it slowly. We are having a very cheap Christmas out of necessity but my DD says all that matters is everyone is chipping in and sharing here and they are coming here out of choice. My Ds fondly remembers xmas when he had tonsilittis and had egg and chips for xmas dinner - he says it was the best ever!

Firstly - tell everyone that you're making a donation to a charity in lieu of Christmas cards - then give Oxfam a bit. Whilst you're in Oxfam (or whichever charity shop you choose) see how many bits and pieces you can pick up.

Secondly - who have you invited to Christmas dinner / the party? See if you can ask everyone who comes to bring something - a bottle or some nibbles.

You don't mention the ages of your children - but how about you get them helping? They could make wrapping paper - crayons and paper - will keep them quiet for a bit.

Put them in front of the babysitter - TV!!! with a christmas film (rented from the Library or Blockbusters) for a few hours.

As for housework - get one of those multi sprays and whizz round the house with some disposable cloths.

Turn the lights down a bit and light candles - hides the dust and if scented any hiccups from babysick! Can't tell I've been there can you???!!

Put the decorations up - this will hide more dust. As long as the bathrooms are clean and tidy - no visitors will notice much else.

Get what shopping delivered you can, and enlist the help of friends and family to shop for you.

Ask yourself what you really need at Christmas - do you really need all the sweets and mincepies or is it because you're expected to have them? We're not having sausage rolls this year - cause I've not got space in the freezer to store them - it's a small one!

As for childrens presents - You can't get away from it - it is nice for them to open something and unless you can distract them they'll be upset if there isn't anything. So I'd suggest looking online for things and only buying for people that you know would be upset. EG - I'd explain to my other half that I wouldn't be able to get his present in advance, and then get him something after the event - but have something small for him to open.

Hope this helps a bit, I'm not sure where I am yet in my CHristmas stuff - but I know I have the presents sorted. Perhaps a night of online shopping is in order?

I even do my weekly shop on line now as it is cheaper in petrol to get them to deliver it.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
