Hi, as the title really, i want dark brown hair so bought Loreal Excellence 10 in Natural Dark Brown and left it on for 10 mins and it has come out jet black.
It's not horrifically bad or anything but a bit too dark for me and my skin tone, so need to get it to fade pretty quick.
Any one got any ideas?
TIA

Try washing again with a clarifying shampoo, that can sometimes strip some of the pigment out."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.0 -
Don't worry, Head and Shoulders will get it to a brown colour. Head and Shoulders is the same thing most hairdressers use when this kind of thing happens. This has happened to me loads of times actually but if you wash it with a brand well known for stripping hair dye it will come out and fade to the colour you want.0

Is it a semi permanent colour? This happened to me with a permanent one. I've since been told you should always choose around 2 shades lighter than you want, as home dye kits aren't very accurate. My hair is black at the moment and supposed to be brown, getting the colour stripped out of it on saturday to the tune of £80£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

I did this too - I used a dark brown which came out a really horrid artificial 'fat elvis' style black... and I am very pasty so it looked awful.... I tried head and shoulders and fairy liquid, neither of which seemed to make much of an impact.
Luckily my very nice hairdresser asked the hair washing girl to wash my hair with a miixture of peroxide and shampoo, which was left on for five minutes - it lightened it a couple of shades, and he did not charge me any extra for it!0 -

:rotfl:That bit made me chuckle.
I am going to give the head and shoulders or fairy liquid a go first as my hair does fade really quickly normally.
The only reason i dyed it dark was because my other colour of brown had faded back to blonde (which was the colour i was originally) but i do need it a bit lighter by the weekend :eek:0 -
As a hair dying veteran, if you can stand the smell Vosene has great colour stripping properties as does Head and Shoulders ( avoid the colour safe one for this purpose!).
I've had mine come out too dark in the past and multiple washings with a fairly strong shampoo makes a world of difference.0 -
If you have problems in lifting the colour, you could always try a bit of fake tan. I died my hair too dark recently (it was a shock because I had been blonde for so long). Hated it at first, but with a bit of St tropez and bronzer, and just living with it for a bit I have learned to love it, so much so i keep up with the same colour dye.0

Aw no, its awful when you it doesnt dye the colour you want. I dyed my hair 'ash brown' and it's come out gingerish, some hairs (very light ones) look very red. I sat and cried, then got lots of compliments and actually like it now lol. My point is I'm sure it's not as bad as you think, and will wash out soon xx0

Fairy liquid is brilliant.
Failing that, give the number on the box a call, they usually have a dedicated advice line for when something goes wrong!

A hairdresser told me to use Head and Shoulders, rub it all in and leave for 1/2 hour and rinse. It is brilliant at stripping the colour out.0
