  • I am always very wary of so called genuine sites/companies who make huge spelling mistakes on there sites especially on easy words - IE Sponsors!

Sorry If im off base here devilchef but I have noted that alot of your posts look like or are spam - hope I am wrong. (for example the last one of your posts had multiple spelling errors inthere terms and everyone questioned its verification.

I hope I haven't offended anyone unnecessarily but just looking out for the fellow mse-ers

Most of your posts are always based in US or Canada only just like this one!

There disclaimer also basically states that the accuracy of there site isn't down to them - maybe someone could carry out a whoisit as I can't??

Seems like a quick and cheap domain registration/hosting by an individual, probably to earn money from click-throughs. I can't see anything too bad on the site but you may (read probably!!!) end up on mailing lists!

  • Thanks for doing that Dave, just being careful.
  • No probs kerry. I use Linux so have Whois as a tool on my desktop but if you ever want to run one yourself try here:

    http://internetfrog.com/myinternet/globalwhois/

enter the site name without the http:// or www at the start ( e.g. moneysavingexpert.com) and it will give all these details.

Always worth doing with sites you've never heard or seen before. It's also handy for slightly suspicious emails too (enter the last part after the @).

He/she seems to get them off http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.co.uk

There's a few good offers that appear on there now and again but anything says the word 'free' in it gets posted on there regardless. There's never any real world-wide offers and most people realise that.

That site has recently had a site listed where you can just fill out a form and get a £20 M&S voucher without signing up to anything. Most people wouldn't believe that you could get that for nothing.
  • To all money savers, i search for freebies in this country and international freebies so although some of them do have foreign addresses, i would never put anything that i would not apply for myself (i am not saying that i dont get things wrong sometimes though) and every single freebie that i have posted, i have applied for or have been recommended by a friend who has applied for them. This freebie for example is fine. I always make sure i never use my proper email and have set up a dedicated email address which i use for these so i dont get bombarded with spam which does my head in and would advise all money savers to do the same, this goes for phone number to, if when filling out your details it does ask for a number, i use a sim number which i never use, these are ready available for free so i dont get loads of unwanted calls and texts.
Although some of you may not like my freebies i post, i am an avid saver and have been thanked hundreds of times so please dont think that i dont care...i do and will continue to do so..........Devilchef

is it illegal to put a fake name just to get a freebee? So that any mail that comes to your house you know its for the recycle bin without opening it?

  • Thanks Wirral_guy (thought Id be specific as two Daves now ha ha) I will try that, it's handy to know so thanks as often you see these things pop up and aren't sure.

Devilchef - as per my original email I honestly do not mean any offence to anyone I just say as I see thats all and noted that a few of your posts I'd looked at previously were spam - which may well not be intentional, I am not saying we don't all make mistakes I make plenty!! Just wanted people to be wary of something that I have noticed and thats all. If I am wrong I would happily apologise. As per all MSE-ers I have an email account specifically for this use to cut down on the rubbish however I do not want more spam than I need to!

Davester - Im not sure I don't see why not as you are not doing it in a fraudulent way. I do not enter comps when I have to enter a phone number, though when its not essential to winning or gaining the freebie I make one up to cover myself from spam so I would think it would be along the same line.
