My friend is having a baby in Nov. She currently is working full time and has a good salary - but she is living on her own and going to be a single mother. She would like to have some idea of what she will be entitled to when the baby is born - She is planning on having 6 months off and then returning to work fulltime. she earns about £29k
thanks

on £29K, she'll be entitled to CTC of £547.50p/w family element + £547.50p/w baby element for the 1st yr and then dropping to £547.50 p/a after the 1st yr.
She'll also be able to claim Child Benefit, but most otehr benefits are unavailable on that level of income.
How is she paid whilst on maternity leave ?, does she get SMP only or do the employers pay her full wages ?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
yeah SMP only0

As the 6 months will fall in the same tax yr, then she effectively halves her income for 06/07 (as you ignore £100 of SMP when calcualting Tax cRedits) , so she may get more tax credits, best is to try https://www.entitledto.co.ukI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
