The power cable is loose on my laptop, I have to wiggle it a bit in order to charge the battery and its getting worse. Does anyone know how much I can expect to pay at a computer repair shop?

Hi
This has happened to me twice the first time I had it done on the warranty and I then had major problems as they had to strip the laptop to get at the connector. When I got it back the wireless lan wouldn't work so had to send it back, they swore it was nothing they had done but it was a strange coincidence!!!
The second time this happened I did not send it away but took it to a local pc shop who charged me £55.00.

What laptop is it as it seems that the connector is loose on the motherboard. This usually happens when the laptop in not placed on a flat surface.0

The parts are not expensive, it more the labour that bears the cost. Around an hour or so of work. My estimation is about £30 - £60 depending on what part of the country.
Make sure if possible to get the socket reinforced as shown in link. (Please note I am not recommending them specifically - just want to use the picture shown for illustration)

I repair these. It takes about an hour to do - more if its not one I've done before and there's no service manual available. Most of the cost is labour as it can be a battle figuring out how it all comes to bits. The part itself, if it actually even needs one, is around £1. Usually they just need resoldering to the mainboard. The "reinforced" repair done above is "OK" but there are ways to make it more secure without any external signs.0

Thanks everyone. The laptop is never used on a flat surface so the cable does get a lot of wear and tear. Will take it to a shop today.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
