Mondeo MK 3, Sump bolt ?
Hi,
I have a 2004, MK 3, Mondeo 2.0 TDCi and want to carry out an oil and filter change but have problems about uncertainty about what the sump plug (with rubber o-ring washer attached) is.
I picked one up from a Motorist Discount Centre (MDC) - Pearly PWN725. Package says its for a Mondeo. I assume they gave the right one for the diesal.
When I picked up the oil and oil filter from another MDC, they gave me the Autobar S13 sump plug. This looks longer and slightly narrower and I cannot clearly see the o-ring washer, like the previous one.
Now I'm lost as to which one I need to use.
I went to Halfords and they said it was not a stocked item and I had to order it and would take 1-2 days. if I ordered it. They searched by car registration number.
I thought, why would they not stock this item for a "common" car.
I have not got it from Ford as they are double the price of the MDC.
Any thoughts or recommendations please on which sump plug I need?
Thanks.

I'd just drop the oil and compare them to the one thats fitted. If all else fails, you still have the original.
I've never replaced a sump bolt when changing the oil and only ever give the washer a good clean up.0 -
We never change the sump plug or washer. Just make sure they are clean when they go back in.
Mondeo sump plugs are usually REALLY tight and will feel like they are about to loose the thread!0 -
Whenever I do the oil on my Zafira I pick up a new rubber O ring for about 20p from the local Vauxhall dealer.0

OK. I'll try both your suggestions. Thanks.
I read in the Mondeo Haynes manual that washer has to be replaced (in fact the plug & washer is one piece) so I was going by that advice.

Ford dealer said that the plug & washer was one piece , costs about £7 inc. From a MDC it's about £3.
Your lucky that only the washer for your Zafira needs changing. 20p from a dealer is a bargain.0 -
For the small price it costs for replacement you may as well change it.0

Its cheaper to take advantage of the offers that national chains do. That's why as a qualified mechanic with a full set of tools I've not changed the oil on my car myself for over half a decade. There's just no point paying more to do it yourself laid on your back on the drive/side of the road out in the cold and wet when you can drive into National Tyres/Kwik-Fit etc and get it done while-u-wait for less.0

national and kwiksh!t do a service for less than the price of doing it yourself i'd like to see proof of this!
OP yes its advised to change the "O-RING" or both if the o-ring and bolt are one piece, means as you have both types you may aswell change it just compare with the bolt removed, remember to replace the oil with recomended grade that manufacturer has set this will be in you ford manual. too less'a' or thicker grade will damage the engine.0 -
To be honest, I'd rather do the oil change myself. I've done it before in my previous cars, so its not a big deal. But it'll be the first time on my current Mondeo.
If I can do this easily, I would like to change the oil every 5-6k miles on the diesal.
Although it may be cheaper to go to National Tyres/Kwik-Fit etc, I'd prefer not to. Trust is probably a big factor.
The oil which I have got for the Mondeo is the Comma Xtech Semi-Synthetic 5W/30 which meets requirements for Ford WSS-M2C913-B.
This matches with what the Haynes manual says.
