Channel 4 and DVD recorder....

Can anyone advise on what might cause a panasonic DVD recorder not to be able to tune in Channel 4?

All the other channels are OK and when you plug the aerial lead directly into TV channel 4 is OK.

manual tuning the DVD recorder says `No Signal` whe you reach channel 4.

Strange....

Thanks in advance.

Either a poor tuner in your DVD recorder or it's clashing with it's UHF out channel.

Can you watch DVDs via the aerial lead i.e. without the SCART connected?

    Thanks for that.

The DVD worked OK until I stopped using it 12 months ago, it has now been put in a relatives house a couple of miles away.

I will try the lead tomorrow.

Is there anyway I can check if there is a clash while I am there?

    Thanks again.

Is ch4 OK on the TV when the DVD is cabled up & switched on?
If there was any conflict with frequecies I would expect it to show up.

Do you know which transmitter you're getting you TV signals from?

There is no channel 4 on normal TV through the DVD recorder.
Plugging the aerial lead directly into TV is OK.

Aerial is on the wrekin or sutton coldfield.

    ch4 on Sutton Coldfield is ch50 & on Wrekin it's 29

Does it tell you anywhere in the literature what UHF channel it outputs to?

I am pretty sure it was on No 29 when it said `Chanel 4 No Signal`

I cannot find the destructions for the machine which isn`t helping.

Does it make sense that the other 4 chanels would tune in automatically an noy C4???

So it actually locks on to ch4 but can't decode the signal? odd!
It sounds like some sort of filtering is going on either because of a faulty modulator in the DVD or setup issues.
Without being able to play around with the the UHF output channel - its going to be difficult to get to the bottom of it.
A work around for now would be to split the aerial down-lead before it goes into the DVD & feed it seperatly to the TV.
This will of course mean that you can not record ch4 & you'll need to watch the DVD via the Scart or other A/V connection rather than the TVs UHF tuner
