Gaggia coffee machine

  • Following on from what jack spratt said, I've had no end of trouble getting my machine repaired (in warranty) by the new Saeco Gaggia Service.

It developed a leak in October and after waiting a month for it to be repaired it came back with exactly the same problem that it went in for. After being told that a re-repair would be prioritised I've now waited yet another month for it to come back, and I'm still waiting. They are awful at answering the phone, replying to voice mail messages and sending emails. It took me 3 weeks to get a returns label because I can't wait in at home for them to re-collect it after the failed first repair. Not everyone has jobs which let them stay at home an entire day for a courier.

Anyway, I love my Gaggia machine and it makes really good coffee.. I have a Gaggia Baby Class. However with all the hassle, their 2 year warranty really isnt worth the paper it's written on. So don't be put off buying one, just hope that you don't have any problems. Considering the cost of the machines you'd expect much better.

I just bought a Gaggia Cubika the other day from Currys, £99.99.

As I'd been battling with my leaky old Krups (well not exactly 'old'...but after 2 years the gasket has gone)

The above explains why Currys have been able to knock them out cheaply then.

Now I don't normally go for any 'extended warranty' malarkey in shops, BUT...the lady at Currys persuaded me, and to be honest I think it's a good deal...

£11.99 - (which is a third of the cost of registering it with Gaggia).

3 years extended warranty which provides for FULL REPLACEMENT each time..no messing..no sending away for repair..if it develops a fault, you get a replacement. That'll do for me :)

My Krups machine went straight back after a week as it leaked constantly and now, as it's out of warranty and leaking again it was time for a new one.

Although, typically for an Italian designed item, it 'looks' lovely but is an absolute !!!!!! when you are trying to get the water tank in and out...there's a special technique I've had to work out otherwise you're stuffed!

And it won't let you put the brewing head on if you put so much as a grain of too much coffee in it! Bonkers.

Also getting to grips with the temperature of the coffee, as it's a long wait for it to heat up, compared with other machines. My first few brews were decidedly luke warm. The instructions simply point to the fact that they think you are using the 'wrong grind of coffee' (I always use expresso). It got a bit better this morning and now it's starting to develop some 'crema', whereas before there was none.

But hey it looks nice in the kitchen!:rotfl:
