Also - changing rooms are closed on the first sale day so make sure you go in before the sale starts to check the sizes of jeans/ tops etc. I find that I'm generally a size smaller with Next clothing as opposed to many other shops.

The trick - as far as tops go - is to wear a thin vest-top under your jumper. That way you can try on in front of a mirror. Leave your coat in the car as hordes of shoppers make a store uncomfortably warm.

I always put my debit card in a safe pocket and go bag-less so I have less to carry.

It also helps to take a list of curtain widths/drops, family clothes sizes etc.

When I return things to Next I put the refund on one of their refund cards. That way, even if I'm broke after Christmas I have something to spend.

Debts another fine mess you got us into!

:rotfl:It's the only sale I am prepared to queue for and DD and I really enjoy it and look forward to it. As well as the obvious bargains there's a sense of camaraderie since it's the same old crowd who recognise each other. And even the staff it seems..... I nearly missed the last mid-season sale and got there at eleven am. As I walked past the store manager he said "You're late!" :rotfl:

It has become a ritual to decamp to Sainsburys for breakfast afterwards! :D

Does anyone know when it starts online?

Also when it starts online does the site tend to crash?

That's a difficult question because everyone has their own particular agenda. I can only give you my own examples and they tend to be homewear. I go for the more expensive stuff which is usually very good quality. I have in the past bought silk curtains, hotel-quality bed linen, media storage, towels, bathroom storage and some really nice dining sets (plates etc.) None of these were there the next day.

As far as clothes go, leather jackets are scarce and go quickly (unless you're a size 6). Similarly, good quality jeans. The stuff that's left always seems to be either the stuffy blouses or 'irregular' styles, for example, tops with one short sleeve and one long, Seems that despite fashion designers' attempts most of us are more comfortable with symmetry!

Having said all that, at the end of the summer sale there was a pair of gorgeous 'distressed' pine chairs that sat in the window all through the sale. On a nearby table there was a 'sold' sign and I think we all assumed the chairs were included. When I saw that they had been further reduced from £200 for the pair to £30 I decided to ask (just in case). Salesman thought they were too but turned out they weren't!
    :j

    Moral is, always ask.

    Happy hunting.

No idea when it starts but previous experience with my other half is that the website slows down to a crawl (a minute or so to change page or put something in your basket) but doesn't actually crash.
