I'd say SOME banks won't open a Charity Bank Account without a registration no (eg CAF), but as Gift Aid can be claimed more than 3 months after the donation has been made, the solution would be to open a 'clubs and societies' account somewhere else and submit the 3 months of statements in 3 months.

S go round the banks, ask what accounts they offer for a new charitable group in the process of registering, and take it from there. I've known charities have accounts with all the High Street banks, they may not be 'charity' accounts but they do the job.

  • You're completely right in the way that people feel passionate enough to donate to charities so why not go one step further and actually start one? If I'm honest I've never thought on that wave length but I think its fantastic.

Although as mentioned above Government cuts on this are a problem - perhaps it will all change soon!

    Thanks for the post

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, but would anyone know where I could find a list of registered charities, along with contact details for them?

I'd like to make a few donations, so if anyone knows of really good charities that don't have 90% overheads, let me know.

  • Thank you for this useful information it has been very helpful to me.
  • Starting a charity is not too difficult, but you need to have a chunk of money set against the business... I think it is about £10k.
