Connecting a Nintendo DS Lite to a BT Home Hub.

Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone on here has managed to sucessfully connect a DS to a BT Home Hub (I have the black one) & if so, what security settings you used?
I had a look on BT's website, but it wasn't any use - it told me how to connect (put in game, search for access points, etc), but not what to do if you couldn't. The DS finds the Home Hub, but the lock icon is grey, meaning that it is incompatible with the Home Hub's security settings.
I contacted BT customer support for help, but they were no use whatsoever & told me to contact some paid helpline, at a cost of £25 a flipping time. No thank you!

I've not done it, but I remember that the Ds lite is limited to the p-poor WEP encryption, so you'll have to tone down your router security...Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

I forgot to add, I did try setting the router to WEP encryption, but this made my broadband stop working. :sad:Life is a waste of time.

Numpty alert!
You obviously didn't change your encryption to WEP correctly and if you can't do that, then forget connecting the DS.

No need to be a jerk. I'm aware that I probably didn't do it correctly, hence the reason why I was asking for the correct settings. This is the first wireless router I've had, so forgive me if I'm not an instant expert. :mad:Life is a waste of time.

So when you changed to WEP, did you enter the same key at both ends of the link? e.g. the router and the connecting device.
The older DS could not handle WPA but the later ones can. WEP is no longer secure, so should really be avoided if you value your security. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I entered the key in the security settings for the router, but didn't proceed with the WEP once I realised that this had caused my broadband connection to stop working (it switched onto 'limited connectivity' & said something about the settings not being compatible), so I changed my settings back, as I don't want to connect the DS (Lite, if this helps) at the expense of my ability to access the web.Life is a waste of time.

If you change the encryption to WEP (not a wise move) on the router, you then obviously have to also change any device that you want to allow to connect to the router! This is why your change to WEP didn't work, you only half did the job. Unless it's an old DS Lite, WEP is irrelevant anyway. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Just to add....
There are known compatibility problems with the DS lite and some wireless routers. My DS will not/can not connect through my linksys router, so no matter what tweaking, or security setting i choose it just will not happen.

Quite correct there are known issues, and no need for the numpty comment! not everyone is an IT professional (Which I am) and everyone has to start somewhere so please try to be helpful and not critical of others.
Also look at perhaps using the Nintendo Wifi adaptor which my wife had more success with but you do need a PC or laptop that you can plug it in to and have that on, basically it uses internet connection sharing with the little USB pen stick. The one we had was given to the next door neighbours so their child and wife can use it and the wife got a Dsi
Hope you have more luck :-)0 -
