:confused:Hi

Could I have some help please?
When I turned my laptop on it loaded up but my icons took ages to come on so closed it back down and reloaded it, now my system tray is rather large. It is larger than it was yesterday and the layout is different. On the right the time is shown with the day underneath it and the date under that. Then the icons eg volume, network connection, the power sign and AVG icon etc are all in rows if four underneath each other. On the right I have the start icon and the language icon. The rest is a large blue panel. I have tried making it smaller but it disappears, I have asked my ds who was on the laptop earlier if it was the same he said yes. It was not like this last night I have not installed any updates inbetween then and now the only thing I have done is uninstalled windows defender and reinsatalled it as I was having problems with it. I have done this from the microsoft website the same way as before I have scanned my laptop and it is saying it is clear. Any ideas anyone or it this a update I am using xp home.

Thanks:beer:

    system restore first

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

    to go back a day

then this to make sure its clear (2nd one of these I've seen toady ??? )

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
    • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
    • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
    • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
      • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Then click Finish.
    • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
    • On the Scanner tab:
      • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
      • Then click on the Scan button.
    • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
    • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
    • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
    • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
    • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
    • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

If you right mouse click on the taskbar there should be an option to "lock the taskbar" It is normally locked, but if it is you will need to unlock it to set things back again.
Then just hover your mouse over the top edge of the taskbar untilyou get a vertical line with an arrow at both ends. Press and hold the left mouse and drag down about half way and let go - it should then be back as normal.
You should then be able to lock it as above.

    I'd run this as well

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

looks way worse than it really is , I've run it loads of times with no ill effects on PC's.

you seem to have some Trojans there that may not have been totally removed

You can run Malwarebytes on a regular basis , just click on the Update tab and then check for updates , then scan like you did before
