Is there a difference between Freesat and Freesat Plus?
We have the people from Freesat coming to fix us a dish and connect up next Saturday and have purchased a Humax recordable box, but have recently seen Freesat Plus and not sure if there is a difference.

From what i understand freesat plus is freesat including a pvr so a bit similar to virgin V+ service and skys Skys+ service, it basically allows you to record programs0

Freesat+ is to Freesat as Sky+ is to Sky.
In other words, it's Freesat with a PVR* (as Sky+ is Sky with a PVR). You've obviously got the Humax Foxsat-HDR, as have we. Once you've got your satellite dish installed (make sure the dish has the 'quad LNB' so you can use the twin tuners - you should expect to see two leads come ino the house from the dish) and connected your Foxsat, you will have Freesat+.
BTW, 'people from Freesat' don't come to install dishes like 'people from Sky' do, I assume you have a local firm doing it. Beware if they claim to be 'from Freesat', cos they aren't.

and there is a new Panasonic Freesat+ box out that is a blu-ray and hard disk recorder all in one - pricey but good to cut down in cables & boxes0

Pricey as in £700 + ouch.0

I've got Freesat+, it is excellent. Just like Sky+ but without the subscription. You need a twin cable coming from your satellite dish (can be an old Sky one). You also get HD programmes from the BBC and ITV.
Here's a good website with all the info:

The Humax FoxsatHDR will also store photos and MP3s.0 -

Many thanks for this ... so do I presume that we do not need to specifically ask for Freesat+ when they are doing the installation or is it something we should be specifying at this stage? I did tell the girl who contacted me that we had a recordable box.
Concerning the Freesat people coming to install - we were contacted by Freesat and they are arranging to send someone. It was my assumption that they used their own people to do it.0 -
You already have 'Freesat+' if you have bought a Foxsat HDR box. Just make sure that they fit an LNB with twin feeds (preferably a quad) so that you can use the twin tuner recording facility on the Foxsat.
Standard Freesat installations (without the recording facility) are usually quoted as single feed only, you need to specify a twin feed LNB and twin cable for what you are calling Freesat+. The extra cost is around £20.
If you said it was a recordable box, they should be aware of this, but make sure they are when they come to fit it.
Freesat have no installation staff at all, your installer will just be a local independent installer who is registered with Freesat. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

You will probably also pay extra if you allow the guy to 'set it up'. But the 'quick start guide' in the box tells you all you need to do, it's mainly just a matter of plugging in and switching on.0 -
