If anyone has any ideas on what might be wrong with my car I would really appreciate hearing them....basically i have use of a 2.8td mitsubishi pajero and for weeks now it has been stalling for the first 15 minutes or so but once its warm its ok. My ex borrowed it and has now said I cant have it back as he thinks its dangerous keep stalling(i live quite rural and there have been some close shaves with cars coming up behind us!!).

  • I'm suspecting it could be either the EGR, IAC valve or the coil pack eitherway your ecu should log a fault code which can be accessed by a OBD reader
  • Quite often stalling ,while cold, is caused by the engine revs being too low. This can usually be overcome by either keeping the revs up ( with the pedal ) at junctions or by slightly increasing your tickover speed.

At this time of year, letting your engine warm up a bit before pulling away may help a little.
  • Try http://www.aa1car.com/library/diesel.htm for suggestions. Stalling while decelerating is down at the bottom, and is along the lines of what dudenstumpy suggests, although water in the fuel can also cause it. Is your water in fuel warning light coming on at any point?

does it just completly stop or does it stop like its running out of fuel.
It could be somthing like a a map sensor but you wont know until its been on hooked up on a machine.
  • idle control valve? plugs, map sensor, throttle position sensor, mitsi pajero is basicaly a shogun (pajero is a jap import).
