Fitted Kitchen - John Lewis

Hello

We are about to have some major renovations done to our house which include a 2 storey extension to the side, plus a garden room. As part of the work, I get a new kitchen.

I've seen one I like (john lewis leckford).

Does anyone have any experience of JL kitchen installation?

Or can anyone recommend an alternative?

I have to make sure it's done well because it'll have to last me as long as I live in this house 15+ years.

    Hi

The Leckford door is called Lincoln to us independent kitchen specialists that supply Mereway kitchens. Its a slightly different choice of colours as a Mereway product to John Lewis' offering. Also JL kitchens have a 5 year guarantee where as a Mereway kitchen has 10 years.

    Good luck.

I hadn't heard about Mereway before, went on their website and it looks a good range, just what I am looking for. It says the distributers are Wentworth Studios but its not easy to find their locations.

    Hi Nickyx

This is where it gets more confusing!

Wentworth is a brand name owned by Mereway. Effectively Mereway is not a brand name, it is the name of the manufacturing company. In short:

John Lewis 'own brand' kitchens are made for them by Mereway.
Wentworth branding is used in 2 ways, either as a Wentworth Studio which is effectively a franchise or should we say 'joint venture' between Mereway and a small business/individual (kitchen designer). Otherwise Wentworth branding can be used by a Mereway dealer only if authorised by Mereway.
There are other kitchen specialists (like me) that sell Mereway kitchens but effectively sell it as their 'own brand' and not use any brand names!

    Hope this helps.

Thanks CK, it does sound a good product, especially with 10 year guarantee, but difficult to track down. I need a supplier in south west London.

Do you rate them? It's just me and OH so no children swinging on doors, but I do want it to look good for at least 10/15 years which is why I've chosen a classic style.

I've found a local Mereway place (Kidlington, Oxon) so perhaps I should go and visit them.

I just wondered if going with JL I am guaranteed better service than going local?

    Thanks for help thus far.

No problem Nickyx, glad to help.

South West London, I can do that! :D

We did a kitchen in Wimbledon from a recommendation in the summer.

    Hi Lee

    No problem.

Yes, Mereway make an excellent product, probably the best mass produced kitchen manufacturer in the UK. IMO.

You should get better service and a better design from an independent kitchen specialist rather than JLs. Of course I think we do a better job than JLs! :D

Being serious though, we have sold many kitchens to John Lewis staff as we have designed a better kitchen for them and pretty much been the same price as JLs even taking into account their staff discount.

    Good luck.
