What rust problem. I don't think many cars have a rust problem these days. If they did,the manufacturers would soon hear about it. I had a long ride in a Vito people carrier last year. It was very comfortable and performed pretty well, as far as I could tell as a passenger.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

I've never driven a Merc!!! I was checking up on Merc Vitos and the van was the only review I came across - Many people were saying that there was loads of rust and I thought, okay well that's the van and maybe because people use it for work on sites etc, but is this a problem with the automatic version as I am going to be using it as a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle0

If it is the V class (the one with all the leather trim etc) and not the Vito they have air suspension at the rear which is prone for going faulty and costing £1000's to put right, some of the older ones have been modified by removing the air suspension all together and fitting the coil spring system from the van.0

This is the one

The earlier vehicles DO RUST! MB had a terrible problem with vehicles build between approx 1996 and 2005. What year Vito are you thinking of?
A very good place for advice is the MBclub forum0 -
2009 - I will be getting it in January 2010 brand new0

We were also int he market for a people carrier and did similar research.
Decided due to unreliability, and high cost of servicing, to avoid the Vito.
Still havent made a decision because there isnt a huge amount of choice out there when you need that number of seats. Interesting several of the local nurseries run Vitos as their collection buses and we asked them why and their response was 'nothing else really out there when you need that number of seats.
Once you get to needing 7 seats and luggage or 8+ seats your forced to go commercial.0 -
