Barclays Kaspersky

My (personal) edition of Kaspersky is up for renewal in 10 days time.
The renewal on their site seemed expensive so after some research (on here) I discovered as I have a Barclays account and am registered for Internet Banking I am entitled to subscription to Kaspersky for free.
So far so good.
My question is - the steps shown on the Barclays site allow for renewal - for existing customers or first time installers.
My option is not covered i.e - already have Kaspersky downloaded.
Advice from Barclays online helpdesk is - on the day of the renewal to uninstall my copy of Kaspersky and download again from the Barclays website as a new user, with a fresh copy.
I just wanted to confirm that this is the best way to deal with my situation - my main concern is being open to virus attacks whilst uninstalling and the new intallation being completed?
Thanks for all help in advance...

It shouldn't take too long and you'll only be going to Barclay's (presumably secure) site. Just make sure you have a firewall up, the risk should be minimal.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Download the new copy. Disconnect from the internet and uninstall the old one and reinstall new one and reconnect to the internet if it requires online activation.
Then you have nothing to worry about.0 -
Why not download it before uninstalling your installation?
If that is not possible, though it should be, download and install one of the free AV such as Avira.0 -
I have Kaspersky from Barclays. No need to mess about uninstalling/reinstalling. Just get the validation code from Barclays and enter that when your current install of Kaspersky requires renewing. Job done!0
