new cooker? new boiler? :-(

we've not put much money into the house since we moved in due to massive child care costs which hopefully will end soon when little one goes to school. So my cooker and boiler which are about 20 years old are getting unreliable and bits are literally falling off my cooker. I do a lot of cooking so the oven I'd go for would be big. I am concious of getting a boiler which is cost efficient. I am guessing that I won't qualify for any boiler scheme because we aren't a low income family but will wait out to see that the scheme is about. So my question. Is it frivalous to consider buying something like an aga which can do my heating and cooking and last a long time etc. I am hoping also that it is energy efficient but oviously would take ages to get that return. My partner had a french version of an aga when he grew up and thinks that they are the way to go. Our house is pretty warm most of the time though the main room would benefit from the radiant heat of an aga. So I am researching agas / rayburns etc to see whether they are work their money. Whether the lifetime tag really does apply etc etc. anyone got any experience.

You could be looking at at least £5k for a gas powered aga but it will last a lifetime.

Can you go for second hand? Gas only cookers tend to last for ages & are relatively cheap ie less than £500 for one in pristine condition on ebay.

yes I could go second hand. I've done some digging tonight and see that there are a few options around these days which I need to think more about. My concern was to replace these items which would a) last as long as possible and b) try and be as energy efficient as possible. I know the aga ticks the box in terms of lasting ages but I need to do some checks on energy efficiency because it is very costly. I could get a second hand one of course... solar is interesting I need to read about that more.

When we last bought a cooker, we bought an ex display, for peace of mind, its was brand new but had been out in the shop window, not on shop floor, so was more or less brand new, and cheaper too
