Apologies if this is in the wrong place.
So i got my new 46" HD TV Today and figured what better way to show it off than with SKY HD, so i promplty phoned up and got talking about what they could offer as i have only just had Sky+ (well just over 1 month), so after telling me that because i have had sky+ for more than 30days they cant refund that (fair enough), so after threating to cancel my subscription all together the person on the phone said he will investigate what offers are available, he came back with - "I have done the best i can however because SKY HD is new and is already on an introductory price i cannot get it any lower" this sounding fairly genuine i pulled out the dreadid Credit Card, i then went on to ask him when it could be installed (it just so happend i have a sky engineer coming on tuesday to fix SKY+ so i suggested he just fitted HD instead) the response was "there is no way he can do that as you have to join a que for installation" i dint think much to that untill he said right i can book your installation for 01 September 2006, YES SEPTEMBER, so he expected me to pay £299 for a setup i cannot even use until september a whole 3 months away yet, he then proceeded to tell me in his words was: "I suggest you buy it today because SKY had 70,000 HD boxes delivered to the UK and once the last one has been sold or untill 22nd June (yes Thursday) whichever comes soonest the box will increase to £499 + £60 Installation charge, and you still wont have it installed before 1st September so you may aswell just buy it today" Once he had stated this i proceeded to simply say "No thankyou" and hung up.
So if your really that desperate for High Def sky you have a whole 2-3 days before a ridiculous £200 price hike. (which he said will remain for AT LEAST 12 months)
Hope it helped???

Hi
Things like this make me so glad I left Sky and bought a Toppy pvr
Me and Mr Murdoch laughing all the way to the bank:rotfl:
PS I think only Sky, could get away with this, but I hope they don't, and nobody takes them up on this offer, but I expect they will.0 -
sorry forgot to mention in above, when i spoke to SKY when he pointed out this great DEADLINE befor the price increase he also said that the moment i was on the phone they had 2000 boxes left and they were currently selling at 600 per day.
How i laughed0 -
mr murdoch makes me want to turn the air blue.
its disgusting. i signed up for sky. i dont know why. maybe the thought of going from 5 channels of crap to over 600 channels of crap sounded appealing at the time. its a waste of money and im counting down the days to the end of the contract when i will have duly had another box delivered because mine will have ceased to operate and then i shall sell it to make back some of the money i have wasted on purchasing such utter sh*t0 -
There have been several reports about Sky being let down by there HD box suppliers (perhaps Sir Alan has been distracted of late).
I trust your HD TV has a 1920*1080 pixel display, as if it hasn't its not up to spec!
Why not buy one of the newer DVD players with a scaled up resolution, and forget about Sky HD for the moment.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007YQO18/026-9588341-8949256That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Aren't all Sky broadcasts in 1080i? Which isn't really an improvement over 720p. 1080i has more scan lines, so produces nicer static images, but 720p is better moving fast moving objects due to it's progressive scanning. 1080p is great, but still not hugely supported, especially by broadcasters.penrhyn wrote:Why not buy one of the newer DVD players with a scaled up resolution, and forget about Sky HD for the moment.
Do they make much difference? I've not actually seen one so can't comment myself. Isn't it just stretching the resolution of a standard DVD, the only improvement I can imagine is using am HDMI connector."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

The reason for not buying a HD-DVD Player is the simple fact that until i can convert all the DVD's i already to own to HD i refuse to go and pay £15 per DVD just so that it is in a HD Resolution, and simply playing a standard DVD through a HD tv and HD DVD Player makes no diffrence (tried it round a friends, and is the same concept as a XBOX 360 - Although that does now look amazing gameplay i cant turn it off lol). Also if were been honest a "Decent" HD DVD Player your talking £200-£300, so then you have to think well if im paying this why not just get SKY HD????
And belive me when i say my TV is top of the range and the screen resolution is truly something of the future just a shame i cant show it off yet.0 -

and to the above yes ALL Sky HD transmissions are broadcast at 720p and 1080i ONLY.

What a joke if they put the SKY HI-DEF box upto £499, hope they go out of business as there is no way that it is worth £4990 -

The upscaling DVD players just upscale the standard definition signal to fit the higher definition screen...but if you've got a true HDTV then that will upscale the standard definition signal on it's own.....so unless the DVD player upscaler is better than the built in TV upscaler...it's a complete waste of time, might as well just use an ordinary DVD player.
True HD DVD players (Blu Ray and HD-DVD) are just out in the US, they're too expensive and there's not much choice in HD films yet.0 -
