which graphics/video card?

I got the PC second hand on ebay and the graphics card originally fitted was a 256MB DDR2 ATI RADEON HD 3650 (looked up the service code on the Dell website) and it was removed before it was sold, along with one of the 2GB of RAM.
Basically what I got for £107 delivered is a Dell Vostro 410 with a Q6600 cpu, Foxconn motherboard, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Dell power supply and DVD-RW drive.
So I need more RAM and a graphics card. And I have a 500GB HDD that's faulty that I need to return to Maxtor under warranty...
I second the go for the 4670, well above the 210. I have used ATi for 8 out of the last 9 years and always been happy. Also as long as you don't have a huge monitor the quality will be fine.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0 -
Yeah the "missing" bits are no problem because I only found out about them because the seller provided the Dell product code and you can look up the original spec.
Thanks for the tips, I'll check the 4670 out.0 -
Some very good feedback and FYI HDMI carries both audio and sound under the spec and I like the looks and HD specs of the ATI card.
It would be interesting to see what the COD 6 in medium detail plays like :-)0 -
Just found this one too:

Go for the higher spec ATI if you can afford it0

very general terms here but how it works: -
4(generation of card)
6(where in the family tree it sits with number of graphics processing engines)
7(the speed of the memory and the GPU)
0(a number in the thousands looks better)
So in order of performance always go 6740 ( the 4 means nothing if you were to use a 3series 870 model compared to a 4series 330 model, in moderation. A bit like an older 3series BMW M3 is faster than a new series BMW 520i)
I have an older XT1950Pro but the 46*0 knocks it for six.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0
