MP3 Transfer Confusion

Hello,

I was hoping someone might be able to help as I'm driving myself mad trying to compare two MP3s and need to make a decision asap for christmas delivery.

I'm deciding between an Ipod Nano 8GB and the Sony NWZS545R S Series 16GB (on Amazon at only £70). The reviews for the Sony sound okay, and it looks like you can drag/drop music easily.

- Am I right in thinking that any music you have stored on your PC, ie. on Limewire or Windows Media Player, have to be transferred to Itunes before you can transfer it to the Ipod?

- I was also wondering, sorry if it's a silly question, whether the Nano comes with anything to charge it? Or if a separate docking station would have to be bought?

I'm basically just wanting something that's worth the money and easy to transfer the music, so I think I'm swinging towards the Sony... Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you :)

Yes, that's how you do it. You install iTunes on your computer, then import the music files into iTunes, then 'sync' your iPod to iTunes.

If the music files are in the wrong format, iTunes will let you convert them as it imports them.

There are other ways of doing this if you don't want to use iTunes, but most people do it this way.

You charge the ipod with the usb lead through the computer. You can buy a mains charger.

I know it's not on your list, but have you considered an iPod Touch?

Unless there's a compelling reason otherwise, it's the only iPod to consider buying.

IPODS ARE NOT THE BEST MP3 PLAYER. And you also end up basically imprisoned in iTunes and what Apple allow you to do. For example, you can only sync with one computer and if you want to take files off your iPod to put on another PC, you can't.

iTunes will also drive you mad because it'll either create the messiest folder hierarchy ever if you let it control where to put music or if you don't let it control it, you'll end up going through everything assigning it to the right album.

nonsense, loads of other software options, however i choose to use itunes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_iPod_managers

also you dont 'transfer the music to itunes'
you can just tell the software wher your music is stored IYKWIM
of course you can set it to import music to its own library or whatever
