Overboarding a ceiling?

I'm starting to redo my bathroom nxt week so i'm just doing a bit of forward planning. I'm intending to rip off all the existing tiles and plastboard everything. I will be dab and dotting the plasterboard onto the walls and overboarding the ceiling... my question is do i have to batton the exiting ceiling first? i don't want to take down the existing board (i did this in the kitchen and don't what the mess again!), my house from the 60's so the celings are very high, i don't really want to loose and more height than necessary ;)

dont really need to batten at all. just mark the joists and transfer the marks to your PB.
gives you the guide line/s for your screws.

As long as you mark exactly where the joists are you will be ok. If you try to do it without using the existing joists, you will be in trouble. The boards will droop and it will be very unsightly. I speak from experience. Also slightly longer screws should be used.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

If you mark the joist positions on the walls you can't get it wrong when you've put the ceiling boards up.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !
  • I don't understand, the dust, yes but seal up the doors and let it out the windows. Whats wrong with the ceiling anyway, you are just holding up more trouble. You are going to loose a bit of height as well. Also causes problems fitting lights etc I find with the extra board thickness.
