Tv doesnt have audio out, help with sound bar

Bought other half a sound bar for xmas, early present and bought it as it connects via 2 cables 1 x audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 ) 1 x audio line-in ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm ) basicly one red and one white into the side of the tv .
now not being technical and the sharp sound bar not working i got the local tv guy in to have a look, he pointed out that my 42inch philips doesnt have a audio out on the tv and this is why i cant conect the sound bar,
he did say we could get a jack to jack cable and use it via the headphone point on the tv but this just allows the sound bar for the tv.
We can connect it to the back of the virgin media box as there is an audio out which allows us to use the sound bar for when we have virgin box on, but when we want to watch a dvd ( no audio out on dvd) we cant use the sound bar, again when wii is on we cant use the sound bar.
We bought the sharp sound bar for ease of use as it was omly 2 connections, not thinking that we did not have an audio out point on the philips tv ( tv just over a year old)
As we have virgin box, dvd player and wii would a 4 way switchable scart with additional phono sockets help with the fact of our tv not having an audio out ? Allowing us to use all of our things with the sound bar ?
Any other ideas would be gratefully recieved
Many thanks

If your TV only has a headphone output then as your sparks told you you just need a 3.5mm mini jack to phono adapter, like this one.

Or if there is a spare scart socket you should be able to get line out audio via one of these.
As your TV is always used as the display device you only need to establish an audio connection from the TV to the sound gadget .That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thank you for the information, will look at the jack plug through the headphone ( the first picture)
Looked at something similar to the 2nd picture,
but didnt know if this would be viable due to having tv, virgin media box ,dvd , and wii all connected up and having to toggle between av1 av2 on the tv
would a 4 Way Switchable SCART Block.
be viable with having the additional scarts allowing to change from tv to dvd or wii ?0 -
Your input source is irrelevant as the sound always comes from the TV.
If you are running out of Scarts for you TV thats another matter. How many do you need? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
i have 3
virgin box , dvd player , and wii0 -
We tried jack to jack plug via the headphone socket and the sound came from the tv, via the sound bar
but when we tried it with dvd, no sound from soundbar0 -
That makes no sense whatsoever, if you removed the headphone jack did you get sound from the TV?That gum you like is coming back in style.0
