Natwest - Helpful Banking?

Has anyone else had the same problem with Natwest Bank...?
Our family (3 of us) all have cash ISAs from Natwest, following a good recommendation from MSE last year, but have found it very difficult to get the money OUT of Natwest. We couldn't get it out as cash or cashier's check (they don't use checks any more in branches, apparantly). Finally we've agreed to have checks sent from head office.
Each member of the family closing the accounts recieved a letter saying that the signature that we made on the form to close the accounts didn't match the one they held on their records... which is quite an achievement if you think about it. It could very well be a delay tactic and we are wondering if it's a popular one. Anyone else had this?
