Roasting tin I can use on the hob.

Last year I bought a very good roasting tin and rack (prestige). It has a non-stick coating. It is fine for the oven but when using on the hob, to make gravy, the non stick has now started to come off. Can anyone recommend a tin for both uses.

I don't use non-stick cookware at all. My roasting tin is one of those cheap tins that they sell for roasting turkeys - always see them in supermarkets around this time of year, and they're only around £2.
I like to make my gravy in the tin that I've cooked the meat, and have used mine on the hob a couple of times for that.0 -
An all metal or my La Creuset is excellent on the hob and for roasting - 18 years old probably and still going strong.0

I would recommend either the old fashioned enamel tins for a budget option or a Mermaid roasting tin if you are feeling flush. I have used the black speckled enamel sort for years with no problem - but so far I can only dream of a Mermaid tin.
p.s. if anyone out there has used Mermaid tins for a long time I would be very interested to know how they hold up to long term use.0 -
Thank you for your replies. My prestige tin was £30!!! As it has only lasted the year I am not impressed. Looking at the Mermaid products (Thanks Slinky_Malinky) and think they may fit the bill. Anyone got one?0

Two La Creuset oven/hob dishes have split in twain whilst being used on the hob. Not impressed, shame as we generally like their stuff. We all evolve - get on with it0 -

Were these the "poterie" range, ie ceramic? As they are only for oven. I have never had any problems with my cast iron le creuset, well except when OH burnt the living daylights out of it, never for it to be resurrectedBut it is only the cast iron ones that can be used on a hob

I have had 2 small Mermaid trays for about 5 years now and they are still as good as new. I have asked for a large roasting one for Christmas this year from santa-fingers crossed! I would totally recommend!0

I use all my roasting tins to make gravy on the hob and never have any problems. None of them were expensive - in fact they were all dead cheapie ones.
Every now and again, I give them a good soaking in bio-soap powder (a la Kim and Aggie) and attack with 'brillo-style' pads.0 -
I've used the cheap ones on the hob and don't think I've had a problem, other than they tend to pop and buckle....
I love my enamel tins though and would highly recommend them.Piglet
