New build house insurance

Hi - I am in the process of building a new house and took out self build insurance. It has now expired and they have said that they will not insure me for the period between now and when I get my completion certificate ( should be the end of April). Are there any companies who will insure this interim period.

Any help appreciated.

  • Hi there

Phone an insurance broker - cover will be limited to FLEA (fire, lightning, explosion and aircraft) insurance, but it will be better than nothing.

As soon as you have the completion cert, you can get the policy amended to full cover and add in the contents.

Well done on your self build. Hope it's a nice house!!

Hi Oscar - thanks for this - I had never heard of it. The house should be ok when it is done ( it has taken 5 years!!!!!) and we will have to finish lots of things later. The credit crunch has affected a lot of people.

    Many thanks
