Hi you will need indefinite leave to remain in your Indian passport to get benefits from the British Government.

    Thanks

  • I am having my own flat and paying council tax since last 18 months when we were on HSMP visa(No public fund in use stamp) but now we got settlement visa(No stamp there) so can i get any discount in council tax?We boths are working but our(both) income is not more than 1750 per month and paying heavy morguage also.pl.advice.Our council tax is 135 per month.
  • Try putting your details into www.entitledto.co.uk
If you have no children, I doubt whether you will be entitled to anything on that income.

There is no council tax discount which you can get - you would have to try and claim council tax benefit but I would suspect that you'd fall foul of the residencey tests and your income is almost certainly too high.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

There is a leaflet on this webpage that gives an overview of some of the rules and information where to verify if you are entitled. It's only a general guide but the leaflet gives contact numbers to organisations that will be able to advise you in more detail.
  • The one question which come to mind is the mortgage which at £925 a month would be about £220,000 at 5% interest only and around £160,000 at 5% repayment over 25 years.

With your salaries at the level they are, how can you have such a big mortgage ?

I understand that if it is repayment and the term is shorter etc. then payments will be higher but if that is the case, then you have leeway to change the terms of your mortgage.

If you can give some more information on that maybe we can offer more advice.
