secure internet browser

Hi,
Just a quick query re. internet security.:eek::eek:
I do all of my banking on line and in various threads I've started to notice people suggesting that a more secure browser than Internet Exploper should be used for this.

As a self taught internet user, there are large gaps in my understanding of how it all works and I certainly don't feel that I know enough about web security so I would welcome any relevant advice, especially regarding secure browsers and how to access them.

Many thanks in advance for any help. ktj.

A lot of people recommend Firefox, as with it being open source as soon as bugs are discovered fixes are soon applied.
To be safe you need to have an up to date virus scanner, working firewall and a malware scanner.
You should also ensure that your operating system is up to date via microsoft updates.
AFAIK there is nothing wrong with IE8.

Make sure the padlock and https url are displayed also. ;)
  • They say Iron, the OS-fork of Chrome, is extremely secure.
  • What version of Windows and Internet Explorer are you using?
  • Internet Explorer 8 on Vista or Windows 7 is very secure and possibly more secure than Firefox.

HOWEVER Firefox and IE8 are only as secure as the last security update so even if you're running Firefox then unless you're running the latest version there is a risk.

The only really safe way is to boot up using a Linux Live CD and do it from there, running the OS from the CDROM.
