Hi, my fixed tariff runs out at the end of December and I've had an email from British Gas asking if I want to change to Price Guarantee March 2011.....
I've had a look but the Websaver 5 looks cheaper?
It says that the March 2011 option is 3% higher than the standard rate but it looks to me like the Websaver 5 is 6% lower........have I got that right?

I have both elec and gas from them, on monthly DD.

I'm not so much a dummy as a rabbit in the headlights :o:rotfl:

Thank you, reading the Guarantee March 2011 doc that shows the tariff says elec is about 33p on the second teir which is frightening...
But I can't find the tariff for the Websaver 5.........

The Web Saver 5 tariff is a cheap tariff for average users. You can switch again to the cheapest tariff penalty free in July. So that only leaves nine months until March 2011 next autumn and winter to claw back the higher charges the Guarantee 2011 tariff would have cost. Even if there are increases I doubt there will be too much (if anything) lost choosing Web Saver 5 now and then switching again to the cheapest tariff in July.

Don't worry about the 33p tier 1 (not second tier) cost. British Gas have fewer units charged at this tier than many other suppliers (500 kWh vs 900 kWh) so they are a higher price but the actual cost to you in the end will not be much different.

    eg, 500 kWh at 33p tier 1 , 10p tier 2 vs 900 kWh at 23p tier 1, 10p tier 2
500 units charged at an extra (33p - 10p) is 500 units charged at an extra 23p which is £115 per year.
900 units charged at 13p extra is £117
