BBC News Ticker

Just downloaded the new BBC News Ticker from:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/4735697.stm

For anyone who used the old one, this one is even better with more options
and improved user friendliness.

For anyone who hasn't,give it a go,it's a free and easy download that scrolls the latest headlines in a long thin box the size of your taskbar at the bottom of your screen. You configure it to include subjects your are interested in,eg. UK news,Technology,Football etc.If you want to read a story you click on it and the BBC News page is displayed.

Few years ago, about 6 I used one and it contained spyware.

I am not a great fan of tickers, when you can get browser extensions that do the same.

This is a program that is endorsed by the BBC,only available from a BBC website that links to only BBC web pages.

Do you really think it would contain spyware?

I know it is possible but extremely unlikely.

I have been a victim of spyware in the past, probably from web browsing.

Does this mean that I now refrain from web browsing?

The one I used which was 6 years ago approx, was endorsed by the British Broadcasting Corporation a.k.a. BBC.

    Yes it contained spyware.

You browse all you wish sweetheart, I do not have a clue if this one contains anything that might spy upon you.

As I said, I prefer an extension I use by webdev, it gives me news updates when I open my email application.

leesmith, BBC files do not contain spyware, now or 6 years ago, jsut doesnt happen. It may have contained legitimate market research stuff, like recording which news items you clicked on, but not spyware.

If you had spyware it was probably from downloading or browsing, and you happened to notice it at the same time as the BBC ticker was installed.

Perhaps your dislike of the BBC (expressed elsewhere) explains your negativity towards this neat little tool.

I would rather read and write my emails when I open my email app. not get news updates.

And why did you call me sweetheart? This is a friendly forum not a Guy Richie gangster film.

thanks for that, I only looked a few weeks ago to reinstall the ticker. It was unavailable awaiting the update. I had forgotten all about it until your post. I`ve just installed the new one and it looks like a big improvement over the original.
