Hi all,
Not posted on this part b4 but I am so fed up I was hoping someone could advise me. I stripped off the wallpaper in my daughters bedroom and would like to paint it but the walls are covered in paint flecks if u know what i mean?? i have spent weeks scraping it off and have then gone over with sand paper but you can still see them. I test painted a small patch and it did look better BUT I have now just had enough, wish I had never started it!!! Would it be best to paint it with a primer first? do you think it might look a bit smoother?? There is no way I can afford anyone to do any work for me.

You need lining paper! It will forgive any minor uneveness in a wall - any big holes etc you will have to fill but it sounds like you've done all the hard work.
Lining paper, just like wallpaper, specifically for problems like yours. Once it's up you can paint the wall any colour you like!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

either use a sanding machine or use lining paper.
remember that lining paper is put on horizontaly.Get some gorm.0 -
Lining paper is probably your quickest and cheapest option however sometimes this problem can still show through the lining paper particularly on long walls where natural daylight shines down! so pay particular attention to the preparation on these walls!!
Lining paper should be hung vertically if painting over, horizontal if hanging another wall covering over the top, 1200 grade lining paper should be sufficient for this job.0 -
I was going to say about the grade of paper also, it comes in different grades from about 800
but always get the best grade, like Yorkshire Bred say - 1200make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The other option, although more costly is to get the walls skimmed off with plaster. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet. This will give you a good finish for painting etc, but accepted it is more costly.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

If you use lining paper, leave a 1mm gap between the sheets and then add fine filler in the gap after the paper has dried. Quick (and I do mean very quick) sand over, then paint. It will look like a freshly plastered wall with no lines. This does however rely on no large bumps of uneven plaster underneath.
I watched a decorator do this a few years ago.
