National lottery

Options
hi. some help would be greatly appreciated.
i logged into my online lottery account recently and saw that my balance was -£60. after ringing camelot up to find out why i was eventually told that due to a mistake made by them 6 months ago i was payed £60 more into my bank account than i should have. i am now being charged the £60 as it has just been spotted. can they actually do this or does a similar rule/law not exist as in shops where change cannot be rectified after leaving the building?

Online lottery account is different than shop in a building, so there might be different rules. If they paid the money to you accidentally and if they can prove that, you have to pay it. It is their good gesture that they, haven't taken the money from your bank account.
  • thanks for the advice! i just thought that there would be some sort of time frame in which they had to rectify their mistakes but if not i guess i will just have to pay it back! :(
