in built electric fan oven and gas hob, also cooker hoods

Help.
I know nothing. But in the next week I have to choose these three things. I have seen on currys website that you can get good combo deals
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1202677946.1260567750@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccckadejdiddhdjcflgceggdhhmdfol.0&page=SimpleSearchProducts&low_bound=0&up_bound=0&criterion=built%20in%20oven%20package&AtimeStamp=3438020572#(any):(any):225:1275:PageNo_2:SortOrder_DOWN
but are these any less good than buying them separately? Any brands to avoid or look for?
Also - cooker hood - I've never had one before. What do I need to know. It won't be on an outside wall so is there any particular type I need to know?

Anyone, any advice, any opinions - would be very gratefully received.

Many thanks,
T

Also... do you think it is worth waiting til after xmas? I can wait, though the builders might not be totally amused that I don't have my appliances yet. I might be able to twist their arms if it's worth it.;) (I also need a dishwasher so have some bartering power)

  • I take it you don't cook then. Gas or Electric. Single/Double Oven, Fan Assist, Self clean (here you do want Pyrolytic self clean), cold touch triple glazed doors, Stainless or coloured. Gas hob, electric, (induction) .....

Get your self to a kitchen specialist because you will be living with this equipment for years.

More names for you De Dietrich.

We got Neff single oven (the series 3 pyrolytic one) and a Neff induction cooker. Its more energy efficient and has enough control like gas (there are 9 power levels with an intermediate level for each one).

The dishwasher (electrolux) came free with the kitchen units in the sale wickes were doing but it's a reaonable one.

Didn't get a cooker hood as my kitchen is tiny and would be too much hassle for venting, I just open the windows and I need to open the doors to chuck the bin out every day anyways.

It was cheaper to shop around and pay the cheapest even with bartering power of buying a few units. A few online shops do a discount if you buy more than 3 appliances. We didn't because I had specific appliances in mind.

    Thanks,
Oh yes I definitely do cook. I prefer gas hob and electric fan oven. That is what I have at the moment, but I have opted to get an inbuilt one as it will look better in the new kitchen.

So my questions are simply about brands - I've never bought a cooker before, having always acquired what I want with houses/from family.

I also wondered if it is worth not going for the cheapest - but upgrading to mid range. Or are those really expensive ones really that different?

It will definitely get used though - in fact I am itching to cook again, having eaten my way through all the frozen meals I cooked before the work began!

    Thanks for the replies.

  • We sold our house last month where we had a zanussi oven, and in our rented house there's an Ignis - the difference is very noticeable. I think Ignis is a cheap brand?

Anyway - when I use the Ignis, it browns very unevenly, I never had that problem with our Zanussi oven, plus the control knobs are very basic so a bit of guesswork is needed with the temperatures, and I really miss having a clock and timer!

We bought all our Zanussi kitchen stuff from a little independant shop that sold shop returns (damaged boxes, minor cosmetic damage) and paid lots less than the rrps. Another good place to look is Ebay which is where we got our built in microwave and were very pleased with it.

On the recommendation of a poster here I purchased a de Deitrich double oven. Cleans itself, absolutely brill.
Turn the dial and all you have to do is wipe a tiny bit of white ash away when its finished.

As for hobs, I wouln't have anything but induction. The Pulse setting is faster than any gas hob and the keep warm setting lower than gas can go. Plus the heat is evenly distributed unlike a gas ring. Plus it is far more energy efficient as it doesn't heat the room or saucepan, only the contents. Hey Neff, giz a job!

I make many economies but everyday cooking isn't one of them. What I used to spend on cleaning stuff, plus my time doesn't bear thinking about.
  • Temba There is a Thanks button you can press on the lower right hand side just under this message, it's free to press (just the once), go on try it.

Did you check out the web site of the manufacture I mentioned in my post # 3 yet. They have everything for your new kitchen. To answer your question about ovens being different, Well yes they are as mentioned in #6 and confirmed by #7. What more do you want from my time to you, please go and look around, find a few dealers and learn. If you get a De Dietrich invite me to dinner.

    Many thanks everyone. Great advice.
Totalsolutions, sorry I didn't thank you first time round ;)

I'm quite curious about induction hobs. Only heard of them for the first time last week.... will be looking into them!
