Hiya all!!
have had a few problems with ideas as to what to buy my 12 yr old for Xmas.
A friend is selling Laptops for £100, her brother buys form company he works for then refurbs them.
The ones he has at the moment are Dell Latitude D505 which has 14.1 inch screen 1.25GB Ram and 40GB HD, problem is I have no idea as to whether or not this is any good at all!!
So the question is do I spend £100 on a laptop that will have near to no comeback as he is just flogging them ala Delboy or do I pay the extra cash ad buy him one from a reputable shop? My dad can fix it up if needs be, so really having no kind of warranty doesn't bother me that much.
Any advice is welcomed kindly thanks everyone in advance!

I reckon £100 is reasonable. Just don't expect it to do cartwheels across the room. It'll probably have windows XP or even 2000, and not the latest incarnations of Windows 7. Most 12-yr olds are only interested in Facebook and playing on the tinterweb anyway, which the spec you mentioned is adequate for.
To see what those laptops are up against, have a look on fleaBay and see if your £100 can go further

Hard to tell without the full spec of the machine. from a quick google and judging from the average cpu and graphics of this system i would say this is a fair price. Also as far as laptops go there isnt a lot you can refurb if you still want to sell it for 100 pounds. What exactly is he doing to them apart from cleaning them? also what does your son want the laptop for. Surfing emails and homework then this would do the job but it wouldn't handle any games from the last 3/4 years.0

Seem an ok'ish price if you just need a web surfing machine and glorified type writer.0

As others have said, it's a reasonable price.
If it comes with Windows, make absolutely certain it has a legitimate copy.0 -
£100 is the going rate and I've seen them in trade auctions for not much less so he's not making a mint out of you.0
