mother was on virgin.. sky sales people came round and she signed up to sky tv and sky talk.

paid out to have a bt line installed..

few weeks find out phone not working..

she sorts the details out for me as she cant contact them. ( no phone now)

ring them up and apparently a 3rd party is going to be her new provider (yet they cant see/say who apparently)

now she hasnt requested that, why would she pay to have a line installed then couple weeks later go to some one else  get told they will email someone to sort it out.. few days later i phone back to chase up as not heard a thing.. no emails been sent any where.. nothing they can do.. her lines been disconnected.. not there problem..

so now got 71 year old pensioner with no phone.. sky talk had the money but now not interested.. even though she would have been under 18 monthy contract..

got to try now try and find someone monday to talk to at bt to see if can do anything to get her back on..

Moved from Virgin to Sky and yet paid BT to have line installed? Why? What's it got to do with BT?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Wrong.

Sky lied to you (they should have employed Openreach to make the connection for them).

Yeah it is outrageous that companies are still claiming you have to get BT to connect a line so they can provide servie. ANY residential phone company can connect a line through Openreach for you... Why should BT connect you when you are taking service from another provider... From the sounds of what you are saying... Sky will get you to set up a BT line and then take it over resulting in cancellation charges of around £80 from BT. I would advise staying with Virgin Media... better broadband :P.

    Depends where you are.

At the moment I'm getting around 1.5mb on a 20mb service each weekday evening. Weekends I might get around 5mb. Weekday mornings and afternoons I can get around 18mb but then I'm at work most of this time.

This seems to have wandered off-topic. I'm still not clear how this situation has arisen and how the OP's 71 year old mother can get a phone service back? Is she contracted with BT or Sky for line rental? Who is the 3rd party then?
OP, is she stil in contract with Virgin as well? If so he phone service with them should still be working if she is on VM cable?

Actually, the door-to-door salespeople are self employed & work for a marketing company. They get paid £40 a sale with a min of 2 per day.The reason I know this is I had an interview for them a few weeks ago & spent a few hours 'in the field' with one of their reps who admitted to me he does'nt know that much about Sky.
I did'nt get the job tho when I remarked in the 2nd interview my concerns about the pay being 100% commision.
On talking to a friend who works for Sky as a sales rep in a shopping mall,he's heard a lot of bad stories about this firm & complaints to Sky.

However I can't fathom why or who the third party provider would be unless you rang BT.They cant tell you who the provider to sky would be however Sky can & should as it should show up in Chordiant in the user accounts page.

The only thing I can think of is it may be a proxy billing agency.

yea she was contracted to sky, which is why i dont undestand why they would let a 3rd party (especially one they claim to not even know who it is) take over the contract.
and who are they as her phone is disconnected :S

her virgin line has been cut off now as she gave notice when she was switching.

i have now managed to book bt to re instate the line, it will be a new number though but luckily enough there was no charge, and have to wait a week to get it connected.

the big dilema is now does she go back to sky talk. after the way they acted it she should stay well clear, but can get free evening + weekend talk and free base broadband with them..

    thanks
