Re-address mail via post office (2 weeks notice i think).
Tell the following people you are moving and when : -
SOLICITOR
REMOVALS PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!
water
sewage
electricity
gas
community charge
telephone
insurances
banks
credit card companies
loan companies
gym
suppliers of postal/delivery goods - supermarkets, health food supplements, books, etc etc
schools
doctor
friends
dentist
basically go thru address books and post and compile a list !!! its always much bigger than you think. Get a standard post-card/letter done in advance
the more advanced preparation you can do the easier on the day
best of luck
ps dont forget to take cardboard box with kettle, cups, tea, milk, sugar, biscuits, light bulbs and loo paper and small bottle whiskey in the car with you !!!!

Get insurance on the new place in situ for exchange
Any benefits you are in receipt of need sorting
Electoral Register
Find out what sort of metering is provided for gas and leccy at new place, some companies need the meter numbers. (Mine has card meters and as it has been empty for about 8 months I had to stick £35 quids worth of cards in the meter before it cleared the arrears and the power came on but Powergen sent a cheque by return of post)
And finally as noted above a "Get U In" box - Cup, plate, KFS, Emergency food (Pot Noodles for me) Kettle, brew kit, some plasters and aspirin!, A change or two of clothes when it is hot, basic tools, all your bedding ready in a bin liner, light bulbs, toilet paper, make a toilet bag for the morning Booze of choice and a glass and corkscrew, fully charged mobile, list of everyones phone number, have handy something to put up at the windows (sheets and drawing pins will do for a start), The priorities are - Beds up and made, something at the window, settee and table, booze!Don't try to do it all at once, ease into the place - Oh I nearly forgot a lot of cash..

Don't forget to arrange to drop of your keys at your agents, if using one, also make sure you know where to go to collect the keys for your new home.
Make sure all boxes/furniture is clearly labelled & make a plan so people know where they go.0 -
