Re-address mail via post office (2 weeks notice i think).

Tell the following people you are moving and when : -

    SOLICITOR
    REMOVALS PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!

    water
    sewage
    electricity
    gas
    community charge
    telephone
    insurances
    banks
    credit card companies
    loan companies
    gym
suppliers of postal/delivery goods - supermarkets, health food supplements, books, etc etc
    schools
    doctor
    friends
    dentist

basically go thru address books and post and compile a list !!! its always much bigger than you think. Get a standard post-card/letter done in advance

the more advanced preparation you can do the easier on the day

    best of luck

ps dont forget to take cardboard box with kettle, cups, tea, milk, sugar, biscuits, light bulbs and loo paper and small bottle whiskey in the car with you !!!!

have "we have moved" postcards printed for friends and/or business contacts
  • ...........and as I am just about in the final 48 hour countdown  can I add the following please

DVLA for Car and driving licence
    Doctor
    Dentist
    Pensions (up in Newcastle)
    Tax office
    Broad Band supplier
    eBay
    Paypal
    Amazon
Get insurance on the new place in situ for exchange
Any benefits you are in receipt of need sorting
    Electoral Register
Find out what sort of metering is provided for gas and leccy at new place, some companies need the meter numbers. (Mine has card meters and as it has been empty for about 8 months I had to stick £35 quids worth of cards in the meter before it cleared the arrears and the power came on but Powergen sent a cheque by return of post)

And finally as noted above a "Get U In" box - Cup, plate, KFS, Emergency food (Pot Noodles for me) Kettle, brew kit, some plasters and aspirin!, A change or two of clothes when it is hot, basic tools, all your bedding ready in a bin liner, light bulbs, toilet paper, make a toilet bag for the morning Booze of choice and a glass and corkscrew, fully charged mobile, list of everyones phone number, have handy something to put up at the windows (sheets and drawing pins will do for a start), The priorities are - Beds up and made, something at the window, settee and table, booze! :D Don't try to do it all at once, ease into the place - Oh I nearly forgot a lot of cash..

    HTH

    It is very stressful BTW
The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...

Don't forget to arrange to drop of your keys at your agents, if using one, also make sure you know where to go to collect the keys for your new home.

Make sure all boxes/furniture is clearly labelled & make a plan so people know where they go.
