hi all
Please can someone tell me in plain terms about ending my tenancy. I'm not stupid just confused at all the opinions offered.
I will try to be as concise and factual as possible.
I rented a house on the 12th April 2008, it was a fixed term assured shorthold tennancy.
After 6mths this then changed to a periodic shorthold tennancy (rolling contract). We have to give them 1 mths notice, they have to give us 2 mths.
When we took on the tennancy they made us pay form the 12th - 30th and then all rent payments have been due on the 1st of a month to cover until the end of the month.
Therefore if I give notice on Monday (13/12) when will i be responsible for the rent until?
If they give me notice when will I have to be out by?
Apologises for not understand previous posts but it does get confusing
Thanks

Strange one, your tenancy should be from the day you moved in but I'm not sure why they changed the rent payable date? You'd need to check, but in my opinion the 12th would still be your tenancy date. Therefore giving notice on the 13th just misses this, and means you would have to pay until Feb 12th unfortunately.0

What date was given as the expiry date for the original fixed term?talulahbeige wrote: ». I rented a house on the 12th April 2008, it was a fixed term assured shorthold tennancy.

It's not that strange. Many letting agencies have their rental payment dates as 1st for ease of admin. If they can get a T in to the property mid-term then the T pays pro-rata for the period up to the end of the month, and the 1st is retained as the usual rent due date.tek-monkey wrote:Strange one, your tenancy should be from the day you moved in but I'm not sure why they changed the rent payable date?0
