self storage charges

Have just arranged to rent a storage unit. Surprised to find that the company insists that I take out their own insurance at what i consider to be a fairly outrageous price. This wasnt mentioned when I first asked for a quote and it is, needless to say, excluded from their special half price offer for the first 8 weeks.
Can they insist that i use their insurance? I could arrange cover elswhere for less, especially as the items I intend to store are not particularly valuable in monetary terms.

What does "Insist" mean? Go else where, contract requirement?0 -
we once asked about storage and the
one we went to were happy enough if
you had your own insurance so long as
you brought proof of it with you when you
came in to rent your unit.We mentioned we
had house contents insurance and they were
happy enough with that.:j:j:j0 -
They ALL make it a condition that you take their own insurance. Its a fixed fee of "n" ponds per £1,000 of value of stored goods.
When these places first appeared they were good value for money. Now they are downright greedy! You'd be better off with a quality outbuilding in the garden - recoup the cost fairly quickly unless your storage requirements are short term - and you'll have a useful building when you stop using it for storage.
