Stains on chrome taps (not limescale)

First let me say we had a water softener fitted earlier this year and it is excellent, no trace of limescale on our new bathroom fitments. However, there are stains or discolouration on the chrome taps, etc like small blotches which cannot be removed with a damp cloth. I am wondering if these are caused by soaps or shampoos and how can they be removed?

Put some Viakil or LimeLight on them with a sponge. If that removes them, they are limescale...
Soap or shampoo marks will just wipe off with a damp cloth. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
Try a dry cloth with a very small spot of baby oil. We clean our taps this way before sending them to customers. It will remove water stains that are very stubborn to move.0

Blue / Green staining can be caused by corrosion of copper pipes due to poor earthing. Check for electrical potential between your pipework and earth and fit any additional earthing as required. You're either Witham or against'em0
