Hi, I bought a extended warranty from this company for my acer laptop which cost 89.99 pounds including delivery. When I received the activation code I went on Acer's website to activate the warranty but I could not activate it because the warranty can only be bought within 90 days of purchasing my laptop. I bought my laptop well over 90 days so I could not use this warranty so I contacted laptopsdirect customer services asking for a refund and I was told even though I broke the seal to reveal the activation codes as long as the warranty was not activated I would get a refund. I returned the warranty to them and a few days later I received a email from them stating that they were returning the warranty so I phoned them up again. They said they would not be refunding my money as the envelope that the warranty activation code was in was opened.
In the Acer warranty booklet it states this warranty has to be bought within 90 days of buying my laptop. This was not stated by laptopsdirect in their terms and conditions or in the warranty policy that I viewed before purchasing this warranty.
I have contacted Trading Standards and the Financial ombudsman and they are both looking into this matter for me.
Laptopsdirect.co.uk also trade under the name buyitdirect.co.uk. If anyone has any advice or have had a similar experience with this company please let me know.

I just had a look at the text of the 'Acer Advantage' policy document from here:http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Warranty_Packs/prod.asp
It states:Please remember that registration for the AcerAdvantage Program cannot be carried out after more than 365 days from the date of purchase of your acer product.
They have offered a policy document which states one term, and then complain when they (or Acer) try and impose another?0 -

The link you have given does not state anything significant. Yes it states "Warranties need to be purchased and activated within the time specified by the warranty terms and conditions" but it does not state what the specified time is and if you look at the Acer Advantage policy document like The Pedant has then you will see it states: Please remember that registration for the AcerAdvantage Program cannot be carried out after more than 365 days from the date of purchase of your acer product. which therefore according to that policy I should be able to activate the warranty but I am not.0 -
Exactly what warranty did you purchase and where did it say you couldn't activate it after 90 days? Also, have you thought of speaking to someone at Acer to clarify the position with their warranty packs?0

Just looked a bit further into this and turns out that if the AcerAdvantage cover includes Accidental Damage cover then you must activate it within 90 days. Without this cover then you've got the 365 days to activate it.0

Hi, it was the AcerAdvantage extended service agreement - 3 years - Collect and Return :

It says in the warranty book I received with the activation codes that I had to purchase the warranty within 90 days of buying my laptop.
I have not contacted acer but will do in the morning to see what they say.0 -

Look under Formality of purchase.
Maybe if you speak to someone at Acer they'll allow you to drop the Accidental damage cover in order to register the rest of extended warranty.0
