I have a leak coming from the bit that attaches the u bend to the toilet.
My question is stupid, so I apologise in advance, but how do i get the water out of the toilet and empty so I can get a new pipe and seal bit put on?
Also if I was to call a plumber to do this, would it be expensive?

water out of the toilet and empty
I resort to bailing it out
, Then when I have only a drop left , stick a big 'old' Towel in bowl . 0 -
Yep, bail out with the lid of an air freshner can or similar, then use a sponge.
Put some platic gloves on too!

            Definately an easy diy job.
Turn of the water to your cistern (should be a valve on the pipe)
Flush the loo to empty the cistern
undo the water pipe
undo the overflow pipe if there is one
bail out the loo!
undo the two screws that hold the pan to the floor
undo the two screws that hold the cistern to the wall
Pull the pan and cistern away from the wall
remove and replace the part
Do everything above in reverse to put it back

bog water !!0 -
Easy, just get a large sponge and squeeze it into a bucket. I've done it loads of times.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I just push the water with the toilet brush. Once it's down a few inches you can carefully move the toilet. The water stays in the u bend in the pan.0

Thats the best answer. If you are careful when you move the pan (tilt it slightly towards you) you'll keep most of the residual water in it. Get the spigot over a bowl you just happen to have handy and pour the rest out into it. Then if you need to move it around a bit theres no danger of any spillage.I just push the water with the toilet brush. Once it's down a few inches you can carefully move the toilet. The water stays in the u bend in the pan.
