need "official" name for something!

You know when you just can't get the right words to search for something!
I need a FM aerial for my stereo-one of the really thin ones that just looks like a wire, with a small female plug on the end, the male end on the stereo is just a thin wire like piece, so not like a TV/coax cable....
What is it called so I can search ebay!

    Indoor FM Ribbon Aerial?
    Get some gorm.
  • Nope, not the ribbon one unfortunately, and not see through. Is literally a very thin black wire, with a small black female plug on it (not a coax plug, only about 5mm diameter, black plastic/rubber, and it slides onto a sticky out wire bit in the back of the stereo)

I'm sorry my descriptions SO rubbish!

Yep thats what I want, for my 1990s stereo! Do you reckon they are all interchangeable, as cannot find a sony one, only a jvc or a sharp one here
  • Yes they are interchangeable, or certainly the ones I've had have been!

    Its called a dipole aerial
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Its nothing special it literally is a black 2 ft long piece of small one core wire,You can use any small diameter wire (Bell wire,Speaker cable) and figure out some way of attaching it to the pin on the stereo,A small "crimp" will work.Just the same as sticking a coat hanger in the back of your TV.

The ribbon cables are better than the single wires is what i found from experience of swapping single wire for a dipole ribbon one. As the socket is usually suitable to connect up coax, at the moment my hifi is plugged into the loop-thru aerial socket on the back of my freeview box so i'm actually using the TV aerial on the roof (a wideband sort optimised for freeview) ..actually works better for me than the ribbon cable. One day i'll get round to fitting a proper radio aerial in the loft meant for the job..but for now it works and cost me nothing!
