Hi, the best one in and around Aberdeen is at Thainstone just outside Inverurie. I've just moved to northern ireland and i'm having withdrawal sympthoms already! To get to it, you follow the Inverness road out about 15 miles, you really can't miss it to be honest. Their website is https://www.goanm.co.uk hope this helps (oh the bluebird busses from Aberdeen stop right next to it if you don't have a car)

You can turn up no need to book though to be honest you have to be early (i'd say around 715 to 730 to get all the early punters) it's £10 a car but if you get the right weather you'll do alright at it.

I have done a few car boots at Thainstone for fundraising. I've never made a great deal, but maybe that's because I didn't have "expensive" things to sell. I have heard of friends raising over a hundred pounds, but the value of their "stock" would have been much more than that. I treat it as a nice day out, and as long as I make a profit, albeit a small one, I am happy. Just a word of warning, it's not like the boot sales you see on television; I find that people pick up things and haggle over the smallest amount. Good luck though, hope you enjoy your sale. Oh, and btw, you do need to take a pasting table or similar to display your wares.:)
  • I've only been once to Thainstone car boot sale, NEVER AGAIN. We only took items that were in good condition, mostly by young son's baby toys. I was disgusted by the attitude of some of the 'buyers'. Most would only buy items for less than a £1, regardless of their value and pristine condition. An old woman refused to pay £10 for a lamp worth £80 and haggled me down to £2. She then went across to her OWN stalll and was asking £5 for it. When I confronted her, she just laughed at me and told me, in no uncertain terms, that I would know better next time. Don't take anything that has sentimental value either, as it breaks your heart seeing it sell for 10p when you know it true value. I would have felt better giving it all to charity.

Agree with all of this, I've done 3 or 4 car boots at Thainstone and no one is prepared to pay much for anything so it's not worth taking anything of value. I don't understand how anyone makes money from this.
