cous cous salady type dish - add whatever you like , i like it with cubes of cucumber ,feta, cherry toms etc or roasted veg one is nice peppers / onions / toms etc stirred through
or a simple pesto & feta one

marinade the chicken then cut into cubes or strips & thread onto skewers ,can alternate with cubes of peppers / red onion / cherry toms etc

also nice with cubes of lamb or pork too

Oh I don't know about gas BBQ's but with coal ones don't cook on the flames. You have to cook over hot coals only or the chances are you'll end up with burnt on the outside raw on the inside which equals food poisoning! _pale_

Also start the chicken in the oven, that way you know it's properly cooked! ;)

You can do skewer sort of things with chunks of lamp/beef/chicken with peppers and onions or something.

Erm.... ...... steak, bacon steak things!

Potatoe salad, coleslaw! The choices are endless! :D

If you have got any kids coming then marshmellows are wicked on a long stick thing just held over the coals for 30 seconds or so!

    bbq corn on the cob
    green salad
bbq onion rings (onion slices on bbq if a flat plate, otherwise fry in pan til caramelised)

Skewer alternately sausage chunks, and chunks of banana wrapped in bacon, and brush with a sauce made of soy sauce/honey/garlic and strawberry jam.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.
  • Ooh I love BBQ's - OH does all of the cooking and I sit and have a few glasses of wine  lol.

    We like:

*Baked Potatoes - started in the oven, wrapped in foil, then finished on the BBQ
*Chicken Kebabs - chicken, peppers, tomatoes & onion threaded onto skewers
    * Garlic Bread - part baked long rolls, slashed and garlic butter added, wrap in foil and BBQ

As well as the usual sausages, steak and burgers, we usually serve up salad, pasta/potato salad, bread sticks and dips and crisps.

    Hope everything goes well :D
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

You can get big party-size bowls of various coleslaws, potato salad etc. in Morrisons which aren't too expensive, if you want to save hassle.

I'd put out a selection of bottled sauces and jars of relish, mustard, pickle, salad cream etc. Fried onion is always welcome - do it in advance and keep warm in foil or in a wide-necked thermos.

As well as the meat perhaps you could do some vegetarian hotdogs (Sainsburys own are excellent - you heat them through in a pan of boiling water for about 10 mins),

Chunks of crusty bread or baguette, spreadable butter, cubes of cheese, bowl of cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumber, shredded iceberg lettuce or little gem leaves.

Nearly all of this can be sorted out well in advance, so all you have to do is throw the meat on the barbie. Have fun!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Hi Rachie, I'm gonna sound dense here: I like the idea of this but have no idea what you do with the cous cous. Do you have to cook it or do anything with it before you mix it with the cucumber etc?

    hiya

what i do is make up the dried cous cous with veggie stock instead of just water, this gives it a nice base flavour
once the stock has been soaked up just fluff it up with a fork and you are ready to add your chosen things to it :)

its very versatile and can be served warm or cold

    :)
