A couple of questions puzzle me?
Why are you paying your savings into your parents' account?
Why are you assuming that you'll have to go on to IS rather than finding another job when you move?
Why can't you take furniture and belongings with you from your current home?
None of this may matter but it all rather puzzled me.0 -
Why are you paying your savings into your parents' account?
It's just an easier way to save the cash discreetly rather than it being sat in my current account which my partner often has me check in front of him.
Why are you assuming that you'll have to go on to IS rather than finding another job when you move?
I fully intend on finding work asap. However I'm working on the assumption that work and suitable childcare is going to take time to sort out. Plus I couldn't possibly be changing anything more in my daughters life if I tried. Her nursery that she currently attends 5 days a week, where she lives, the people she spends her time with i.e. her dad being around - is all going to change. I want to be able to support her by not dumping her straight into childcare (assuming the immediate job and childcare would pan out) with people she doesn't know the moment we get there.
Why can't you take furniture and belongings with you from your current home?
The property I'm in at the moment is furnished with white goods already (fridge freezer, washing machine, cooker etc) so these are not mine to take. My partner bought the bed and sofas and there's no way in hell he will let me take them. Of course I'm trying my best to find somewhere furnished and I've got my sister (who is local to the area) looking for stuff on Freecycle for me so fingers crossed there, otherwise I'm going to be left with 2 chests of drawers, a cot and some patio chairs.
Hope this answers everything

Thanks for the explanation; I didn't realise that you were still living together.0 -
Are you a joint tenant? If so, do you realise that your obligation to pay rent continues even when you are not occupying it? The Shelter website will tell you how to end a joint tenancy if that's the case. Have a look at the Shelter website for the sections on relationship breakdown and domestic abuse to understand your rights and potential solutions. Have a look at the Womens Aid website, too.
Can't answer your question on grants but do consider things like Freecycle, charities that donate or sell cheap furniture to those starting out and the Gumtree freebie section.0
