I want a new printer...

I have a Lexmark which does excellent printing and all that, but the cartridges are ridiculously expensive and it's not easy to get cheaper compatibles. I've had this printer for well over a year and I wonder if may it's cheaper for me to just get another printer and in the long run recoup the money by not spending so much on cartridges.
Anyone can recommend a good printer? I do a moderate amount of printing, perhaps an average of 5 pages per day, mostly b/w with the occasional photo print.
Thanks

I use an Epson R200 and have had great service from it (it was flavour of the month when I bought it). The magazines however seem to prefer the Hewlett Packard printers at the minutes and some of the Canon Pixma printers are getting good eviews (although ensure you can get compatiblecartirdges for these). If it is of any interest there is a group test of compatible cartridges in the latest Computer Shopper (I haven't read it yet otherwise I would tell you what it says)

the Canon PIXMA IP1000 (if you can find it for sale anywhere) that I use has ridiculously cheap refills, somewhere around £1.20 each if you shop around

it's compact, quick, and prints real well.

I think that's how most of the manufacturers make their money. Have a look round on the internet; there are many suppliers of refilled/remanufactured replacement cartridges.0

I have the Canon Pixma ip3000 and am well satisfied with it - and cheap ink. I would recommend any of the Pixma range.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Thanks everyone, that was helpful. I have noted the recommendations and now will shop around to see how easy it is for me to get cheap ink.0

Try googling for "Samsung ML-1610"
It's a laser printer, you can pick it up for around £55 and you'll get considerably more pages (higher quality as well) per cartridge than your typical inkjet (they use something called TonerSave technology?)

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
if your looking for a cheap colour laser you can do worse than looking on ebay for a magicolor 2300, which gives a very good quality print. I have one I picked it up cheaply which has lasted me for over 12 months on the same toners! Also I do know how to reset the opc belt so you don't end up paying a fortune for that.0
