How to split an MP3 file ?

I've just downloaded an MP3 audiobook, which was posted in the Freebies section ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2140037 - many thanks ! ).
My kids would love to listen to this at bedtime. They've got an ordinary CD player - i.e. it won't play MP3 files. I tried to burn it to CD using Windows Media Player, but it's too big to fit on one CD.
Is there an easy way to split it up into 2 halves so that I can put it onto 2 CDs ?
Many thanks.

Hi
There are lots of programs that will do what you want.
Just type 'mp3split' into Google. But I don't know whether they're any good or not.
The one that I use is mp3DirectCut. It will split files and do other editing tasks with mp3 files.
It's a free download from here:-

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go :-)0

I recommend using a program called Audacity.
You can download it from here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

No need to split the files. Use another burner like Nero as it should fit onto one CD at 80 minutes. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Another dead simple tool - dead small mp3knife just google it. Does what it says on the tin.0

Thanks all. I've used the MP3 Direct Cut tool now, seems to have done the job.
Regarding the 80 minute debate - it's a bit of a shame, it registered as being about 89 minutes long, so I've now got one full CD and one with just a few minutes on it :-( I'll probably have a play around later and chop off the intro or something, I'll probably get it down to one disc.
But in the meantime, the kids are delighted and can't wait to get to bed tonight to listen to their new story ! Thanks again to all that have contributed advice :-)0 -

It is actually 80 mins 4 seconds, so I would think that anything other than WMP would easily burn it. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
