in Credit cards
Hi everyone,
i have current account and credit card from HSBC.
1."i have setup direct debit for my credit card with current account.
Last week they tried to charge £600 for my credit card from my current a/c .
i had zero balance in it but they overdrawn it with £600.
The interesting thing now is,they deposited £600 in my credit card for two days.after two days they returned it to my current a/c and they charged £30 for failure to pay direct debit payment.
Also, they charged £20 for credit card interest."
i cant understand why they deposited money into credit card for two days and retuned it back....!
2.today they charged £60 for failure for the payment of 2 direct debit payment.
i know in both cases it was my fault, but its annoying for poor student like me to loose £110 in 1 week.
so can i apply for refund or complain anywhere for these giant charges?
Thanks in advance

You have a credit card.
You have a DD to take payment from your current account.
There is no money in your current account.
Your DD requested £600 from your Current Account and credited it to your card.
However DDs do not work in real time.
Your current account did not have any money for them to debit.
The credit card therefore cancelled the £600 it had credited to your account.
You did fail to pay by direct debit as you had no money in your current account.
In accordance with the terms and conditions of the credit card they made a charge [ or extracted a penalty ] for the failed DD.
They also charged you interest.
You accept that you have broken your contract.
However the charges are very high and may be considered to be unreasonable.
I think there is a high probability that you will be able to recover some or all of these charges. No doubt someone else will be along to tell you how to go about it. However if you do recover some or all of the charges the bank may choose to close your account(s). Good luck...0 -
OK, you screwed up (happens to nearly everybody once in a while) but now it is time to put it right. Contact the bank and nicely explain that there was a problem and it should be addressed today if not sooner and would you please refund the charges because you have been a customer for X years without problem etc. etc.
The second thing I would do is try to arrange an authorised overdraft (if possible) to stop this sort of thing happening again.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
