Repairs to second hand car
Hello, I would be really grateful if anyone could give me a bit of advice. My boyfriend recently bought a second hand car from a local dealer. Within a 5 days the car developed a fault which turned out to be minor & the dealer repaired it. A few days after that the ABS light came on so again we returned the car to the dealer. Having spent all day waiting around they finally agreed that it was going to take longer than expected so in order that my boyfriend was able to get home that evening & get to work the next day they reluctantly agreed that he could have use of a courtsey car. On the way home he filled up the car with fuel (£50 as it was a Ranger Rover) but as he approached home he noticed that the car was over heating to such an extent that it was dangerous to drive. After many arguements, etc with the dealer he agreed to come out with a new courtesy car & take the old one back & he promised to refund the cost for the fuel.
After 3 weeks & a few more stressful telephone calls we have been told the car has been repaired. The dealer had to take it to the manufacturers garage (I have contacted them to confirm this) but will not provide us with details of the repair or a photo copy. He has also now changed his mind about refunding the cost of fuel for the originial courtesy car - can he do this?
To be honest I am fed up of the whole thing - I have had to fight for every single thing, constant calls to them, threats to come down to their garage to cause a scene before anything is done. I am concerned that the car will develop more faults which I will then press for a refund. I have logged all this with the Consurmer Direct helpline in case of any further issues. Should I just admit defeat & give up on recovering the cost of the fuel & the request for a receipt of work carried out?????

At the moment the car has been repaired and you should take it away.
Did you have to fill the replacement courtesy car with fuel as well?
I'm not sure that he has to tell you what was done. Can the main dealer not tell you?0 -
£50 is a bit much to put in a courtesy car...Ifi ever have one i put in as little as possible. The garage will probably say you chose to put that much fuel in...As things with the garage arent on good terms I would probably be inclined to leave it as it is stressing you out.
The garage gave you a courtesy car(they dont have to) and your car is repaired. Job done!! Am thinking of a new one:beer:0 -

In a petrol Range Rover that could be about 160 miles worth. Not so much.
Even in a diesel one it might not be more than 240 miles worth.0 -

£50 for 160 miles works out at around 15-16mpg.
Are they really that thirsty?
Not doubting - just seems mighty thirsty.
Agree with previous poster - £50 was perhaps a bit too much to put in. I'd rather put in a little at a time just to keep it running.

Thanks, in retrospect he should have put a minimal amount in but then thought he had the car for the week. Much as I hate to give away money especially to people like that, I will have to admit defeat on this one. Hopefully now the car is repaired this will be the end of it .... fingers crossed!!!0
