PC wont boot up

I have a Dell Vostro 200 running Vista basic and sometimes it just won't boot up. I can get past the Dell logo to the black screen with the bar running along the bottom. The bar continues to run but nothing else happens. When I turn it off manually and re start I get the black screen with the white writing and have run the repair programme. Sometimes it works and sometimes not!! I could go back to it a couple of hours later and it sometimes will boot up???
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, in terms I can understand please as a pensioner and don't know much about computers

I had the same thing happening to me few days ago. I had to repair my windows to get this thing sorted.

Or it could be something to do with your hardware as sometimes a hardware conflict can cause this error to trigger.

Firstly you should try to repair the installation.

I am having the same problem with XP i have tried to repair and a clean install but still the same no idea how to solve this amongst numerous other issues. Wish i could help.
